Our first graders are learning to write personal narratives. They have created two narratives, titled "Balloon Hop" and "Roller Coaster Ride". First, they shared the experiences of playing the game balloon hop and riding a virtual roller coaster. Next, they created a story plan with sketches to prepare them for writing. Finally, they wrote their personal narratives. Way to go first graders!

5th grade students caught reading books on the playground on a beautiful September morning for DEAR (Drop Everything And Read) time!

On May 22 Mackenzie Elementary School hosted a Social Studies Fair. It was a wonderful display of all of our students hard work.

Our 6th grade students visited Memorial Park in Glen Spey to help clean it up and get it ready for Memorial Day ceremonies. They had a special visiting guest speaker, retired ECS teacher Linda Hazen. Notice students diligently taking notes as part of their journalism unit in the Units of Study.

Our second grade invited retired GRM teacher, Mrs. VanHage, to celebrate “D” day in our ABC Countdown to Summer! She read the students the book “Arnie the Doughnut” and treated them to some delicious doughnuts- that looked exactly like Arnie! Thank you, Mrs. VanHage!

Today's lunch at Mackenzie Elementary School: pulled pork sandwiches, baked beans, coleslaw, watermelon and low-fat milk choices. Looks DELICIOUS!!!

We have some winners! Congratulations to our students from Mackenzie Elementary School who won the random monthly drawings for the last few month through the Sullivan County Reading Challenge.

THANK YOU GRM PTA! Our Mackenzie students and staff really love our new shirts!

Every year in April, our primary grade students (grades PK-2) celebrate Week of the Young Child (WOYC). Annually, the National Association for the Education of Young Children (naeyc) celebrates WOYC to recognize that the early childhood years (birth through age 8) lay the foundation for children's success in school and later life. It's a time to plan how we will better meet the needs of all young children and their families. At Mackenzie Elementary we celebrated with Music Monday, Tasty Tuesday, Work Together Wednesday (where we partnered up with our grade 3-6 students for a STEM project), Artsy Thursday and Family Fun Friday.

ECS graduate, Emily Campanella (Class of 2011), is a therapist who had a long-held dream of writing a children's book. She saw that dream come to life when she self-published "Kindness is for Everyone: The Heartwarming Tales of Em & Dev". We were excited to welcome her to Mackenzie Elementary School today to share her book and message of kindness with our students. For those grade levels that didn't get to see Ms. Campanella today she will be back again next Monday!
