Our first graders are learning to write personal narratives. They have created two narratives, titled "Balloon Hop" and "Roller Coaster Ride". First, they shared the experiences of playing the game balloon hop and riding a virtual roller coaster. Next, they created a story plan with sketches to prepare them for writing. Finally, they wrote their personal narratives. Way to go first graders!

Every year in April, our primary grade students (grades PK-2) celebrate Week of the Young Child (WOYC). Annually, the National Association for the Education of Young Children (naeyc) celebrates WOYC to recognize that the early childhood years (birth through age 8) lay the foundation for children's success in school and later life. It's a time to plan how we will better meet the needs of all young children and their families. At Mackenzie Elementary we celebrated with Music Monday, Tasty Tuesday, Work Together Wednesday (where we partnered up with our grade 3-6 students for a STEM project), Artsy Thursday and Family Fun Friday.

ECS graduate, Emily Campanella (Class of 2011), is a therapist who had a long-held dream of writing a children's book. She saw that dream come to life when she self-published "Kindness is for Everyone: The Heartwarming Tales of Em & Dev". We were excited to welcome her to Mackenzie Elementary School today to share her book and message of kindness with our students. For those grade levels that didn't get to see Ms. Campanella today she will be back again next Monday!
