4th Grade 3D Symmetrical Insects: To create this mixed media project, students first learned about symmetry. Then they sketched and painted an outline of half of their insect, and folded their paper while the paint was still wet to create a copy of the other half. They looked at different types of leaves and folded and cut their leaf so it would be symmetrical. Lastly, students learned how to use oil pastel and colored their insect and leaf. Students had reference photos of bugs to look at while working on their project and could choose to draw an existing bug or create their own.

November 14, 2024 Dear Eldred Community, At 1:50 pm we went into a lockout due to a posted social media threat that the district received today. We understand the concerns this may have caused and want to assure you that we are taking this matter very seriously. The Sullivan County Sheriff’s Office is thoroughly investigating this matter with the utmost diligence. The safety and well-being of our students and staff remain our highest priority. As a precaution, we have increased police presence at dismissal at the JSHS school today by having heightened security it will delay dismissal for both buildings. The enhanced security is in place to ensure the continued safety of everyone in our community. We want to thank you for your ongoing support as we work together to maintain a safe and welcoming environment and for your continued partnership in ensuring the safety of our school community. Sincerely, Traci Ferreira, Superintendent of Schools

The Second Graders have been busy these past few weeks! First, they carved pumpkins as part of a community service project for Circle Park. Then, they were actively engaged in learning about the electoral process. They researched and voted for their favorite cookie! Look at their big smiles! Check out our photo galleries on the Mackenzie page of the website https://elem.eldred.k12.ny.us/o/mes/page/mackenzie-photo-galleries By the way-Oreos won!

When Election Day rolls around the students at Mackenzie Elementary School get to participate in the voting process. We started the day by hearing our 5th & 6th grade students give their student council election speeches. After that students in grades 3-6 had an opportunity to vote for the candidates they wanted to represent them this year. Congrats go out to Abby Kearney voted in as our student council president, Liam White voted in as our student council vice president and our 5th and 6th grade representatives -Alyssa LaGrutta, Erin Fagan, Liliana Cavet and Liam Hunt. We are very proud of all of our students who had the courage to stand up in front of their peers to deliver their speeches, you all had some really great ideas! We also included our youngest students by having them vote if the cafeteria should serve Jello or chocolate pudding for their Thanksgiving Feast. It came down to a difference of only 7 votes but chocolate pudding won!

We would like to thank all of our sixth grader students who participated in the Lions International Peace Poster contest for 2024-2025. For peace to be anything more than a possibility, we need to make it a priority. This year, we asked our students to create a poster that speaks to our world’s infinite potential for kindness once we commit to pursuing the idea of peace without limits. The posters were submitted to our local Lumberland Lions Club members for judging, and the results came back today. Congratulations go to Payton Abrahante, Violet Fisher, and Lincoln Mullen for receiving honorable mentions as runners-up. Pictured below are Mr. Bisland and Miss Bisland from the Lumberland Lions Club and Mr. Carpentieri, building principal, along with the two students who were selected at the local level for best poster. Congratulations go to Julia Clay & Abby Kearney who were awarded $25 prizes for best posters relating to the theme of “Peace Without Limits”. Their posters will be submitted to Lions Club International for the next level of consideration. We wish them good luck!
