Are you in 4th, 5th or 6th grade at Mackenzie Elementary School? Are you at least 9 years old? Is your parent a member of the Mackenzie PTA? Are you interested in driving the Mackenzie PTA's Soap Box Derby car in the Port Jervis Soap Box Derby race on Sunday, June 14? If so, make sure you turn in your raffle form for a chance to be selected as this year's driver. If you need a form they are available in the GRM main office. Forms are due into the office before Spring Break.
There is not school for students this Friday, March 20 but when we come back on Monday let's have some fun at GRM with a Spring Spirit Week to get us ready for spring break.

Week one of March Madness in the books!
5th grade has started their test prep madness this week. They are working on teams to earn points but also individual points towards a March Madness celebration. This round was non-elimination and they worked very hard! Keep reading at home and strengthening those math skills!!!

Have you heard of a blind book exchange? It is a creative, anonymous book swap. Typically the book is wrapped in a paper where you can't see the cover art, author or book title. Clues are on the outside of the wrapping paper as to what the book is about. You select a book and in this case check it out of the library. You only find out what the book is after you've checked it out of the library. Mrs. Bizjak, ECS school librarian, has set up a March Luck of the Read section in the GRM library. Students can read a synopsis of a "blind book" and check it out of our library. This may lead to finding a new author or topic they enjoy. You never know where reading will take you.

Students in grades K-2 at Mackenzie Elementary School have been practicing their early literacy skills with winter themed games.
The first grade students really enjoyed some "heart word magic". They used watercolors to reveal a list of hidden heart words. The words were written ahead of time in white crayon, so when the students painted over them, the magic happened! The activity was such a fun way to practice our heart words while building fine motor skills.
Eldred CSD is on a 2-hour delay on Monday, February 9, 2026, due to extreme wind chill temperatures.
The Mackenzie PTA Gertrude Hawk Fundraiser is live! Whereas most orders are done online, some families choose to sell through the brochure. This is a reminder that the paper order form and payment need to be turned into the GRM office by Friday, February 13. The paperwork states the last day to turn in orders in February 16 but school will be closed for mid-winter recess at that time so make sure they are handed in no later than the end of the school day on Friday, February 13!!
Mrs. Burrows-Wood's students earned the Golden Shoe Award for their diligence in walking in the hallways; not just for one week but for two consecutive weeks. Congratulations to everyone on a job well done!
First Grade has been working very hard on exhibiting positive hallway behavior. Mr. Laput presented the first graders with the "Golden Shoe" prize this morning. Cheers could be heard throughout the hallway! Keep up the good work, First Grade!
