To the Eldred Community:
We have 3 emergency days to give back. After discussion with the board, these are the following dates that Eldred Central School District will not be in session:
Monday, April 8th
Friday, May 24th
Wednesday, June 26th
SCBOCES, including VoTech, will also be closed on April 8th & May 24th. There will be no transportation, in district or out of district on these days.
If there needs to be any emergency closures after Spring Break, June 26th will be taken first and then May 24th will be taken second.

Eldred Performing Arts Club (EPAC) presents ANNIE JR this weekend, March 22 & 23, at 7pm at the Junior Senior High School.
A cast of 30 Eldred students, grades 2 through 12, have been working hard to prepare and perform this classic musical tale.

SueAnn Boyd from Creating Healthy Schools and Communities and Bee Moser from SNAP-ED came to visit Mackenzie Elementary on Tuesday, March 19. They engaged our 2nd & 3rd grade students with fun activities and presented a lesson on the importance of eating more fruits and vegetables. Each child was able to plant seeds and the pots either went home with them or they will watch them sprout from their classrooms.
Attention students in grades 3-6. Are you 9 years old AND is your parent/guardian a member of the Mackenzie PTA? If you answered YES to both of those questions, then you are eligible to be entered into a raffle to to drive the Mackenzie PTA Soap Box Derby Car. Entry forms should be coming home with students today and are due back in the Mackenzie office by this Friday, March 22.

One of our Mackenzie teachers dressed as Miss Frizzle from The Magic School Bus series to celebrate Read Across America Week and this morning we were treated to a beautiful rainbow welcoming us to school!
Congratulations to our two Mackenzie Odyssey of the Mind teams that competed in the Region 5 tournament at OU BOCES on Saturday, March 2. Our 4th & 5th grade team did a theater rendition of Ernest Hemingway's classic novel "The Old Man and the Sea" and our 3rd grade team chose to compete using the long-term problem "Rocking World Detour". While neither team placed, all of the participants had a great experience!
Sussex County Miners Professional Baseball Team is partnering with Mackenzie Elementary School for their all-new Miners Reading Club! Students will read an average of 100 minutes per week for six-weeks (March 4-April 12) and record their minutes on a log provided by their teacher. Incentives are tickets to a Miner's game in Augusta, NJ, ceremonial first pitch, video highlights of our school on the stadium video board and participation in between-inning games & contests. Read Across America Day is Saturday, March 2, the birthday of the beloved author, Dr. Seuss. The entire month of March is dedicated to reading. Mackenzie Elementary will celebrate with a 3-day Spirit Week from Monday, March 4-Wednesday, March 6.

Mackenzie winter clubs are coming to an end this week (there will be a few make ups when we return from break). We had 16 clubs offered this winter! One of which was the Taylor Swift Club run by Mrs. Counts & Mrs. Mikiewicz. This club was offered to students in grades 2-4 and its focus was on friendship, kindness, artistry, female empowerment and the group's love for Taylor Swift's music.

In our 5th grade ELA classes, Mackenzie students pretend they were detectives to figure out who kidnapped the groundhog. They used close reading and inference skills to work together as a team to find evidence to support or refute each of the six suspects. They worked hard to complete the challenge!
The annual Mackenzie PTA Someone Special Dance is Friday, February 9 from 6:00-7:30 PM in the Mackenzie Elementary School gym. Students in grades 3-6 are eligible to attend with one adult of their choosing. Snow date February 16.
