As election day approaches, we had our annual student council candidate speeches today at Mackenzie Elementary School. Tomorrow, on Election Day, our student body will vote who they would like to represent them on this year's student council. Our students also have the opportunity to vote what will be served for dessert on an upcoming Friday, chocolate chip cookies or chocolate pudding. Stay tuned for our election results tomorrow.
Mrs. Mohan's First Grade class completed pumpkin science investigations this week! Students made scientific predictions, observed, counted, compared, and measured during various pumpkin activities. They read the book, From Seed to Plant, by Gail Gibbons to further enhance their knowledge! Finally, they worked together to design a jack o' lantern to be displayed on the stone wall at Circle Park!
Unfortunately the GRM PTA Little Caesars' Fundraiser pickup that was scheduled for this afternoon has been postponed until Thursday.

GRM students are invited to show their school spirit on Wednesday, October 21 by wearing Retro/80's/Neon for a student council spirit day!
Mrs. Knight's 5th graders have been studying states of matter, properties of matter and how the Law of Conservation of Matter works. Students used their knowledge to identify different properties of items. Students made OOBLEK and discovered how it’s multiple states of matter at the same time.

Walking Together for Hope, Healing & Awareness
The Eldred ‘Bee The Light’ team was proud to participate in the Out of the Darkness Walk sponsored by the National Alliance for Mental Illness (NAMI) of Sullivan County and the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP). Coming together with our community to raise awareness, show support, and help shine a light on suicide prevention and mental health.
Every step we took was a reminder that no one should have to face their darkest moments alone. We walk to honor those we’ve lost, support those who are struggling, and remind everyone that hope is always worth fighting for.
Thank you to everyone who walked alongside us, supported our team, donated, or simply helped spread the message. Together, we can “Bee the Light” for someone who needs it. The team raised $755 to assist AFSP in their efforts to fund research, education, advocacy, and support for those affected by suicide.
If you are struggling, there is help available. Call or text 988 to reach the Suicide and Crisis Lifeline.

Mackenzie Elementary School Pictures are scheduled for tomorrow, Thursday, October 1, 2026. A makeup day is scheduled for mid-November.
Celebrated annually on September 15, International Dot Day is a global event that encourages people of all ages to explore their creativity, courage and collaboration. Inspired by the 2003 children's book "The Dot", by Peter H. Reynolds. At Mackenzie Elementary School we challenged our students to "make their mark" by wearing dots or creating dot-inspired artwork.
Mackenzie Elementary School had their first Leader in Me Mackenzie Buzz this week.
We gathered as a school community to celebrate our young leaders. It was a great way to start our day with messages of how to be kind and responsible and be the best version of ourselves. We also got to celebrate a student who was "Caught Being a Leader". Congratulations to Elsa for being a great example of kindness for our students!

The International Day of Peace is observed annually on September 21 to strengthen the ideals of peace and promote non-violence. At Mackenzie Elementary School we celebrate annually with our Pinwheels for Peace Parade. Students decorate colorful pinwheels with messages of peace and hope and kindness in their classrooms and then the entire student body parades around our campus and ends by “planting” our pinwheels around our school grounds.
