GRM Elementary School Parent Notification

This morning, at 7:55 AM, our students and staff at GRM Elementary School were safely evacuated from the building as a precautionary measure after a fire alarm signal was triggered.

By 7:58 AM, the building was cleared to allow emergency personnel access, with the Lumberland Constable onsite to assist with vehicle and foot traffic.

The Fire Department assessed the building at 8:08 AM and issued an all-clear by 8:12 AM.

Normal operations resumed with the first bell at 8:15 AM, and we are happy to share that everyone is safe and the school day continued smoothly.

Thank you for your continued cooperation and support.

Mackenzie Lost & Found Alert! 3-weeks into school and we have a lot of lost & found already. We've asked students to look but not much has been claimed. Do you see something that belongs to your child? Please reach out to Mrs. Gallo gallom@eldred.k12.ny.us so it can make its way home to you. Please remember to label your child's belongings so we can return them quickly to your child. We have a new system in place to hopefully cut down on the amount of lost and found in the future.

As we start a new school year we want to remind parents how important attendance is. We realize illnesses occur and it's not always an option to schedule appointments outside of the school day. If your child needs to be out for any reason please communicate that to your child's school by using the following attendance email address for the school they attend.

Thank you to our GRM PTA for the engaging wildlife assemblies today. It was a beautiful day and we were able to utilize our outdoor classroom. The smaller groups allowed for our students to get up-close-and-personal to the presenter, Riley, from Rizzo's Wildlife World and the animals she brought. Our students had thoughtful questions and the variety of animals they got to see and touch was impressive. Our students saw a small alligator, a tarantula, a box turtle, a hedgehog, a bullfrog, a bearded dragon, a chinchilla and a ball python among others!

Today our 5th grade students were surveyed for a new company developing scented notebooks, complete with samples. Students had to color the samples to get a whiff of cupcakes and apples. They had fun and lots of laughs with this April Fool's Day activity!

March 19, 2025 Dear Eldred Families and Staff, As we transition into spring, the likelihood of school cancellations due to inclement weather decreases. Emergency days serve as a safeguard for weather-related closures, district malfunctions, or other unforeseen emergencies. With the conclusion of winter, we have unused emergency days that must be incorporated back into the school calendar. As a result, the following "Give Back Days" will be implemented for the remainder of the 2024-2025 school year: Friday, April 11th – No school for 10- & 12-month staff and students Monday, April 21st – No school for 10-month staff and students Friday, May 23rd – No school for 10- & 12-month staff and students Important Note: If additional emergency days are required, the above dates will revert to regular instructional days in the following order: May 23rd, then April 11th, and lastly April 21st. Sincerely, Traci Ferreira Superintendent of Schools

In fourth grade art classes students learned about different endangered animals and some of the reasons animals become endangered. Next, using colored pencil, they created a drawing of an endangered animal of their choosing. Once they finished drawing, they added a painted foreground of the animal's environment on transparency film. Lastly, students wrote about their animal. These pieces of artwork look amazing in the Mackenzie lobby.

Having conducted a literary analysis of Kate di Camillo's works, on Tuesday, March 11, 4th grade students were delighted to meet "their favorite author." Enthralled by di Camillo's writing, students were eager to learn more of what prompted her to write and how she incorporated the level of craft evident across her works which captivated them as readers. To date, these students have analyzed, "Because of Winn Dixie, The Tiger Rising, and The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane." As the analysis of each novel drew to a close, students said, "that was the best Kate di Camillo novel,"and then we read another...which led to another...with each literary work engaging the young readers all the more. The virtual author visit served as the perfect culminating activity for their studies.
